Machar Colony

Clinic Info

Machar Colony is home to over 700,000 people, making it one of Pakistan’s largest slums. The area is renowned for its fishing industry and with minimal to none waste disposal systems, leading to unsanitary living conditions. Over 400,000 children reside here, most of who are involved in the fishing industry, compromising their health and safety.   The clinic in Machar Colony has been named the Fort Lauderdale Center in recognition of the generous contribution of the Pakistani community in Florida, USA. This clinic was inaugurated in February 2013 and treats, on average, 1200 children every month.   The number of children receiving treatment increases during the shrimp season, since many children develop various skin diseases when they peel many kilos of shrimp during this time.
